Jacob Shock,
Collections Curator at the Biblical Archaeology Museum
in Collierville, recently traveled to ancient sites in Greece and Turkey .
Don Bassett, CEO of the museum, states that
“Jacob was one of two scholarship recipients who were
selected to join our tour this year.
He has not only made significant contributions to
the development of the museum and its educational
programs, but is also a distinguished scholar of ancient
history, archaeology and the Bible.”
Shock,
who has been with the organization since 2004, has
worked on a part-time basis while completing his
Master’s Degree with a concentration in ancient Egyptian
art and archaeology at the
University of Memphis.
In 2004 Shock was one of two students selected to
travel to
Egypt
with the University’s Egyptologist as an Epigrapher.
He has coordinated two exhibits for the Biblical
Museum including
The Road to Hampton Court, the
English Bible before 1611
and a current exhibit,
Holding History in Your Hands,
an exhibit of Coins from the Ancient Mediterranean
World.
Highlights
of the study tour included Istanbul,
Troy, Alexandria Troas,
Pergamum,
Ephesus, the islands of Patmos, Crete, and Rhodes.
The trip was finalized in
Greece
visiting the Parthenon in Athens
and nearby ancient
Corinth and Mycenae.
Biblical sites visited are described as a
once-in-a life time experience.
